ROBINSON CRUSOE

I shipwrecked on an island reef

And swam unto the shore

To an island I found unlike any

I had seen before

You see I've traveled near and far

And conquered many lands

But the ocean took all that I have

And washed it on the sand

I made myself a treehouse

From an oak that I cut down

And nailed it to another

To get my feet up off the ground

I fish the cove for food to eat

And coconuts for what to drink

My frontier right in front of me

And my head is in the sand

Cuz I am Robinson Crusoe

And I've sailed the seven seas

And I've kissed the seven daughters of Rome

I am Robinson Crusoe

And I've sailed the seven seas

But honestly I wanna go home

The days are long alone out here

The nights are longer still

No woman keeps me company

So there's plenty time to kill

I spend my days walking the beach

And twice a day I swim

I got myself for company

I spend all day with him

I say my prayers before I sleep

Just to hear my voice

I wish someone would answer back

I wish I'd hear some noise

The only thing about the night that

Keeps me satisfied

Are the stars that point homeward bound

So in my dreams I fly

Cuz I am Robinson Crusoe

And I've sailed the seven seas

And I've kissed the seven daughters of Rome

I am Robinson Crusoe

And I've sailed the seven seas

But honestly I wanna go home

I built myself a raft one day

And lonely do I float

The open sea is killing me

Oh current take me home

Cuz I am Robinson Crusoe

And I've sailed the seven seas

And I've kissed the seven daughters of Rome

I am Robinson Crusoe

And I've sailed the seven seas

But honestly I wanna go home

GIRL FROM THE CITY, PT.2

Chasing the sunset

Headed west

Leaving behind a girl

Think it’s for the best

Trying to forget

What a mess

Feeling my forehead burn

Feel her in my chest

Cuz she was someone

Who loves the city

More than she could ever love me

And she was what I

Thought I was missing

She misses everything but me

I’m a mile high

But I’ve never felt so low

So now I’m

Lookin our the window

At The night sky

And the clouds below

Wish you were mine

But you’ll never know

Flight attendant

Gives me a water

Says that I don’t look well

Do I need a doctor?

I'll be fine ma’am

I smile and say

But could you ask the pilot

To turn around the plane?

Take me back to

The girl from the city

Cuz I forgot to tell her

How she looked so pretty in the

Glow of the the street lights

When I had her with me

Don't know if I’ll ever get the

Chance it’s a pity

I’m a mile high

But I’ve never felt so low

So now I’m

Lookin our the window

At the night sky

And the clouds below

Wish you were mine

But you’ll never know

Landin back in Omaha

I pretend to know it all

And tell my friends the protocol

Of living in the city

Sky scrapers that grow too tall

And subway trains and concert halls

But I never mention you at all

Oh, no girl from the city

I’m a mile high

But I’ve never felt so low

So now I’m

Lookin our the window

At The night sky

And the clouds below

Wish you were mine

But you’ll never know

THE BALLAD OF THE MOON AND THE EARTH

The saddest

Love song

That I’ve heard

Is sung from the moon to the earth

It’s a ballad

Love song

The moon wrote

And how he longs

To pull her closer as they spin

Around

Again

He’s sung

For so long

Just for her

But she can’t hear him at all

The distance

Is so long

So it goes

But is he wrong

To pull her closer as they spin

Around

Again

Well isn’t that the way they say it goes

If you love someone, you gotta let them know

Well isn’t that the way they say it goes

If you love someone, you gotta let them know

The moon knows

With his elliptical orbit

That he only sees earth’s face but once a day

So when the sun shows

Lunar eclipse is on course

He has a chance to catch her eye and block a ray

He shows the earth how he makes nighttime out of day

Again

SIMON AND MARY

Simon was a boy of just 18

He met Mary by the bar one Sunday Eve

Well he said to her

It's nice to meet

My name's Simon, could I treat you to a drink?

And she said to him

You sure are sweet

But I think you might be just too young for me

Mary had brown curls and pearly teeth

And Simon never gave up quite so easily

He said

Ma'am, I know I may not be that old

But I know a woman when I see one

She said

Simon, so show me you're a man

Take my hand

Let's see if you can dance

And so they danced

Two hours later they were both out on the street

The bartender took Simon's fake ID

And if I told you, would you believe

That Mary came out with him even though she's 23?

Simon told her

You don't have to leave for me

Go back inside the bar

Enjoy your party

She said

Simon, darling, you've swept me off my feet

I've never seen a man move like your body to that beat

He said

Ma'am, I know I may not be that old

But I know a woman when I see one

She said

Simon, show me you're a man

Take my hand

Let's see if you can dance

And so they danced again

So Simon took her home and just like Johnny Flynn

Mary said to him

I'll be the best I've been

He walked her to the porch and before she went in

He kissed her on the lips

And grinned the biggest grin

He said

Ma'am, I know I may not be that old

But I know a woman when I see one

She said

Simon, show me you're a man

Take my hand

Let's see if you can dance

And so they danced again

MY NAME IS WINSTON

My name is Winston

And I am in Grade 3

I hate my math class

But I’m kinda liking history

And I know that Hannah Fitzenburger

Has a crush on me

But I’ll be damned before I catch cooties

My name is Winston

And I’m 17

I hate my locker but

I love the JV soccer team

And I know that I have a future somewhere

Waiting up for me

Just wait till I get my degree

My name is Winston

And I’m 23

I hate my job

I hate this dumb economy

And I know that I’d be better off

In some other country

Just wait till I make enough money

My name is Winston

And I’m 25

Still hate my job

But I love my newly wedded wife

And I know that she loves me

And that we’ll have a lovely life

I fell in love with her eyes

My name is Winston

And I’m 36

I’ve been promoted

And I’ve got a couple kids

And I know that they have a future somewhere

Based on what they’ve been

Just hope for now they fit in

My name is Winston

And I’m 44

I think I work too much

My wife filed for a divorce

I feel like my whole life

Has gone completely of its course

I need a drink my throat is sore

My name is Winston

And I’m 52

She left six years ago

And I still don’t know what all to do

And my kids want me to date again

But I’m soaking up the booze

What the hell else I got to lose

My name is Winston

And I’m 68

Been sober 7 years all thanks

To my AA

But my health is slipping slowly

And I’m constantly in pain

Just gotta take it day by day

My name is Winston

And my heart is getting worse

It’ll probably kill me if the

Doctors don’t get to me first

I wish that could travel

There’s a freedom that I thirst

I miss my kids so much it hurts

My name is Winston and

I’m about to die

Thank you for listening but please heed my advice

Don’t live your life like I did

Oh there’s only so much time

Stop wishing

Start doing

Goodbye
